Sean Penn Gets Into Geriaction in Latest Hollywood Blockbuster “The Gunman”
In a previous article, we talked about the evergreen actors of Hong Kong cinema; entertainers who have continuously devoted and strived in their careers and who are still relevant to date. On a similar note, aging Hollywood stars who continue churning out Hollywood blockbusters are also a dime a dozen, however it is with action movies that we truly see them flourish. Warfare, blazing guns, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, explosions, blood, sweat, and tears are of no shortage even for the old-timers, and it recently appears that action movie stars, like with wine, get better with age.
Ever since the first instalment of Hollywood blockbuster “The Expendables” hit the big screens in 2010 and bagged a cool US$274 million, the geriaction subgenre have been proliferating. Derived from the words “geriatric” and “action”, geriaction refers to a genre of action movies starring aging actors and actresses, and speaking of which Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stalone, Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, Liam Neeson are a number of names that will come to mind. Sean Penn on the other hand, is one you would unlikely associate with action movies. However, things are about to change following the release of his latest movie “The Gunman”.
An actor who is more commonly known for movies of the dramatic genre, Sean Penn appears to be trying to pull a Liam Neeson, who had his twist of fortune in the action department with hit action thriller “Taken”. “The Gunman” will see the portrayal of Sean Penn as the no-nonsense ex-special forces government operative turned NGO worker Jim Terrier, who found out that the old bosses from his ex-company put a hit out on him and all his ex-colleagues whom he worked with on a kill mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo eight years ago. Poised for action, Sean Penn is wrapped in a cacophony of shoot-outs, explosions and car chases, in this not-to-be-missed Hollywood blockbuster. “The Gunman” will hit the big screens across Malaysia this 26th of March, brought to you by GSC Movies, the leading movies provider in Malaysia.
