During the holocaust, an unsung hero, Sugihara Chiune had risked his life, career, and future to save the lives of 6,000 Jewish refugees by issuing unlawful transit visas to them. With the transit visas, the Jews were able to flee, making their way to Japanese territory in safety and escaped from the onslaught of Nazi Germany. Sugihara Chiune was honoured as “Righteous Among the Nations” by the government of Israel for his efforts to save the Jews during World War 2. As of today, it is estimated that more than 80,000 descendants owe their existence to Sugihara.
