Hilarious Thai Romantic Comedy Have You Loling in Seconds

When we talk about the cinema of Thailand, what you would probably be reminded of is the numerous hair-raising horror movies such as the acclaimed Shutter which I bet have made everyone wizz their pants during the movie’s climatic revealing, or certainly the batshit insane stunt pulled by martial arts extraordinaire Tony Jaa, where he set his legs ablaze and performed a 540 degrees spinning airborne roundhouse kick in the action movie Ong Bak.

If you’re an avid fan of Thai movies or have seen a number of the more popular features, perhaps you might have noticed that most Thai films, be they action or horror, incorporate some element of satire (e.g. toilet scene in Shutter). The Thais evidently love their comedy and this month, your favourite movie distribution company, GSC Movies, has just the feature to showcase what Thai humour is all about.

Setting a new opening day box-office record in its country of origin, turning the Land of Smiles into the Land of Laughs is the latest Thai romantic comedy coming to Malaysia, I Fine Thank You Love You. With a cringe worthy title that will possibly irritate any grammar police out there, the upcoming movie is a story about learning English. This romantic comedy tells the tale of an English tutor, Pleng (Ice Preechaya Pongthananikorn) who was requested an outlandish favour by her student Kaya (Sora Aoi) to translate a break-up message to her boyfriend, our main cast Gym. Gym who blames Pleng for his tribulations, demands that she teaches him English in order to better communicate with his now ex-girlfriend and to ace a job-interview to follow Kaya to the United States. As their tutoring lessons advance, so does their relationship. If you ever had the experience of learning a new language after the age of 18, you can probably relate to what our main cast Gym (Sunny Suwanmethanon)goes through during his awkward attempts to start a conversation with foreigners in Tinglish (Thai/English). Prepare to laugh yourself silly at Gym’s exaggerated and comedic efforts to pick up a whole new language. The Thai romantic comedy I Fine Thank You Love You will be coming to cinemas this 12th of March.
