Tales of Halloween

The horror anthology title Tales of Halloweenwill doubtlessly be jam packed with scares. Under The Mask

In Malaysia, no horror movie list is complete without a hair-raising Thai feature. Second on our movie list is Under The Mask, a Thai horror feature that boasts a worthy supernatural plot. It tells the story of a village where folk dancers gather 70 years ago. Silp, an orphan who was the king of folk dances aspires to follow his father’s footsteps to become a “Yaksha Khon”, a masked artist. While he pursues his dream, he too was having an affair with the master’s wife and was killed in his dance outfit. As horror films would have it, Silp’s vengeful spirit wreaks havoc and the village was abandoned due to fear of his rage. Decades later, a group of thieves happen to carjack a group of teenagers returning from a party and the hapless bunch stumbles into the cursed “Dance Jungle” where Silps vengeful spirit is still looming large. It is up to you thrill seekers to catch the thrilling gore-fest that’s about to take place in cinemas this Halloween.

Purgatory

If you guys enjoyed Oona Chaplin’s role as Talisa Maegyr, wife of Robb Stark in Game of Thrones, then you’ll be thrilled to see her starring in this Spanish psychological chiller Purgatory. Oona stars as Marta a young woman in her 30’s who moves into a new apartment with her boyfriend. Settling into her new foreign abode, she finds herself alone at home that night. Everything was quiet and empty until a string of violent knocks erupted from her door. She opens the door to her neighbour who hysterically explains that her husband was in a car accident and will need Marta to watch her son, Daniel for a few hours until a family member arrives to pick him up. Marta agrees to this and hours tick by with no one arriving to take him off her hands. Over the course of the night, Daniel starts behaving in a bizarre a perturbing manner insisting that there is another being within the apartment whom Marta cannot see. The duo’s relationship takes a strained a violent turn leading to a chilling end where Marta is forced to confront her darkest fears. The suspenseful Spanish chiller is one you don’t want to miss this Halloween for it’ll bring out fears you didn’t know existed.
